Alias Randall Spencer
The most enigmatic figure in the O.J. Simpson crime saga since Brad Roberts is Michael McClinton, who claimed that O.J. told him to bring “heat” with him to the Palace Station Casino-Hotel in Las Vegas. We know less about him than meets the eye or the ear because what we’ve seen and heard about him doesn’t add up in the context from which they emerged. He has more characteristics of a fictional composite character than a real one, like the one Mark Fuhrman said he was “play acting” on the McKinny tapes.
Bearing this in mind, you can learn what is available about that composite character in movies, TV shows, word games, maps and the March, 1994 issue of Vanity Fair, using Fuhrman formulas to test a theory. It’s a theory linking Fuhrman and Roberts to the commission of a March 21, 1994 murder in Las Vegas involving the victim’s stolen car left in a Los Angeles alley, his body in the trunk and the hammer he was killed with.
The victim was Robert C. Hurd, Jr., an Army veteran of WWII. He was born on March 25, 1920 and would have been 75 years old on March 25. He served overseas as an infantryman in WW II. During the Korean War and the Vietnam War he served mostly in the States as a construction foreman, a 1st sergeant and an operations sergeant. He retired from the Regular Army as a sergeant major in 1971. His last known addresses were 2259 Larchmont in Pomona, CA, 1745 Rockwell in Las Vegas, NV and 4963 Smoke Ranch Rd in Las Vegas. All we know about his relatives from Fuhrman’s account in Murder in Brentwood is the name of an alleged nice that Fuhrman called Connie Law.
The Hurd theory says that Fuhrman and Roberts used a professional hitman in Las Vegas to murder that Army veteran on March 21, 1994 (the first day of spring) as a prelude to the June 12, 1994 double homicide of Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson. Here we will focus on the ways McClinton aliases fit into that theory as well as the idea that he and Fuhrman worked together to set up O.J. for his Robbery conviction in Las Vegas.

Spence—Although “Spence” appears on the surface to be short for “Spencer,” it stands apart from Spencer with Garry Spence as the model for Andy Griffith’s super Atlanta attorney character Ben Matlock in Matlock. Matlock gives you the Atlanta Braves (Hammerin’ Hank Aaron), lots of courtroom scenes with frame-ups, a judge pounding a gavel and a 1989 episode with the body of a murdered man found in an alley and an actor in that alley named Richard Herd.
Spencer—Robert Urich is a Las Vegas private eye who works with the Las Vegas Metro Police in the television series Vega$, which preceded his role as the title character in Spenser: For Hire. In Spenser: For Hire he is a Boston private eye, a Boston Celtics fan, a former Boston policeman who works with the Boston police and a boxer. Avery Brooks as Hawk is his mysterious crime fighting friend who hints at a past as a government assassin. The pilot episode of the Spenser: For Hire spinoff, A Man Called Hawk, reveals that he is indeed a former government assassin who honed his killing skills in combat and on special military assignments as an Army Green Beret.
The name Spencer is also linked to Elvis Presley by way of his 1967 marriage to Priscilla Presley and her character Jane Spencer in The Naked Gun series. She lived with Elvis at his Graceland home near Memphis, Tennessee. She met Elvis in Germany when she was 14 years old and he was in the Army. Her stepfather was an Air Force officer.
Randall Spencer—Randall “Tex” Cobb is a former heavyweight boxer. Ty Cobb played most of his baseball career as a Detroit Tiger. Randall Cobb plays a thug in Collision Course with Jay Leno as a cop illegally drag racing in front of Tiger Stadium. He’s a prison inmate in The Naked Gun 33 1/3 with Leslie Nielsen and O.J. Simpson. Stephen King’s demonic Randall Flagg in The Stand is uniquely tied to “Biff’s Pleasure Palace” in Back to the Future II. It’s the same real casino-hotel in Las Vegas that Randall Flagg uses as his center of operations.
McClinton’s Spenser links are mostly to Avery Brooks as Hawk in Spenser: For Hire and Commander/Captain Sisco in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The exceptions are notable when you consider Randall and Spencer separately.
The 1958-1960 Western TV series Wanted Dead or Alive starred Steve McQueen as a bounty hunter named Josh Randall who carried a sawed off Winchester rifle with a modified stock and cocking lever in a special holster strapped to his leg. Steve McQueen is the heroic Fire Chief in The Towering Inferno with O.J. as the burning high rise chief of security. Mark Fuhrman named McQueen in Bullitt as a favorite actor and character.
There is no way every objective connection to anyone can be known to that person. The ones that can’t be known are extraneous. Many little things attached to a few big things could be subconscious. Connections that don’t follow a rational pattern are usually coincidental. But you know deliberate conjurations of orderly associations when you see them within the conjurer’s scope of knowledge and interest. You know them the same way you know that “Alias Randall Spencer” didn’t line up where it is on this page by chance. The theoretical possibility that it did is crushed on contact like a grape under a cinder block by the weight of universal human experience.
What then do you make of a Jumble puzzle based on Michael McClinton aliases with a solution that matches the picture of McClinton in league with Fuhrman and Roberts in the murder of Robert C Hurd? Alternate spellings of Terrance and Randall are irrelevant because the letters in them are not rearranged. Leaving Terrence and Randall intact, here are some possible solutions depending on the spelling of McPhair/McFare and whether or not H is included in Terrance H Dunlap.

On page 125 of Murder in Brentwood, Fuhrman mentions his collection of “late 19th century cavalry items.” Seven paragraphs later he starts talking about, “Connie Law, a black female whose uncle was bludgeoned to death with a hammer and dumped in Los Angeles. The victim, a retired Army master sergeant, was a resident of Las Vegas, so Brad and I went out there to investigate... We discovered evidence that the victim was killed in his own home, put in the trunk of his car, driven to Los Angeles, and dumped in an alley. Las Vegas police took over the case...” Fuhrman never mentioned the name of the victim, Robert C. Hurd.
In the 4th paragraph of the first chapter of Fuhrman's Murder in Greenwich book, he mentions “polo players” out of context. That context is the “croquet scene” of his movie and a full page polo shirt ad in the March, 1994 issue of Vanity Fair next to the table of context featuring Ethan Hawke. The croquet/polo common denominator is a mallet. In the croquet scene Fuhrman says, “It’s a good thing Martha wasn’t hit with a mallet. There would have been nothing left.” Fuhrman thereby uses the symbolism of a kind of hammer as a murder weapon.
The “pi” (pie) comes from Fuhrman’s Acknowledgments in his Murder in Greenwich book: “Sheila – Thanks for the pie.” Pie has several meanings. In some parts of the country it means pizza pie.
Pie also has the same sound as Pi (π), the mathematical symbol used in countless formulas with the numerical equivalent of 3.14 and an infinite sequence of numbers after the 4 that don't repeat. If you know the value of π, which never changes, you can make a few simple measurements to determine all sorts of practical things you don't have to learn by measuring directly. It's a way of knowing with absolute certainty what you will get in practice when you apply it in theory. As a code, it could therefore represent any formula with a surefire practical result. In the Hitchcock movie Torn Curtain, it was used for members of an underground organization in East Germany like the early Christian sign of the fish to recognize each other. The pie sound is therefore ideal for referencing the song lyric code formula in "Bye, Bye, Miss. American Pie" that Mark Fuhrman uses in his movie.

A casino was, of course, the setting for the event that put Michael McClinton (a.k.a. Randall Spencer) -- the man with a gun posing as a cop, on the witness stand to testify against O.J. Simpson in 2008.

If the murder of Robert C Hurd on March 21, 1994 was a practice run for Fuhrman and Roberts it accomplished at least two important things that were useful in their June 12, 1994 murder investigation of Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson. It showed how Fuhrman and Roberts could insure their involvement in the murder investigation up front and how to steer it away from the killer even when other detective took over the case. The operative word is "practice."

Split Images is worth watching simply because it was based on a book by Elmore Leonard and this quote from the trivia section of his IMDb bio: "In nearly every film made from his books, there is a scene where at least one person gets locked in the trunk of a car. Split Images wasn't one of them. The closest it gets is the underground garage shooting scene where Daniels takes his gun and a video camera out of his trunk and leaves the trunk open when he tapes the shooting. However, the Chaykin link above shows you that actor's name connected directly to a murder victim in "Detroit," an old black man who is put in the trunk of a car and driven elsewhere to have his body disposed of in an alley dumpster. The "hammer" link here is in the victim's name.

YMCA tells you to look for a place on a map in "Chi" (Chicago, Illinois) for a name associated with WW II Army veteran Robert C. Hurd. It just happens that another town named Dunlap is also in Illinois. Dunlap, Il and Dunlap, TN are the only two towns that come up when you google Dunlap. Army Sgt Raymond Dooley of Dunlap, Tenn. won the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in WW II. Marine Corps Captain Robert H. Dunlap also won the Medal of Honor for his WW II heroics. A map of Chicago shows several places named after Robert H. Dunlap Actor Nicholas Campbell playing a Detroit Homicide cop named Hurd is what led to the "Y in Chi" map. Campbell also plays a 101 Airborne Div captain in A Bridge Too Far. The 101st part in the WW II invasion of Normandy was codenamed Operation Chicago.
The C in the context of the late 19th century cavalry, a black Army sergeant, the crime of murder, and a mallet (a judge’s gavel) is John Ford’s 1960 classic western, Sergeant Rutledge. Braxton Rutledge was the top sergeant in the 9th cavalry, C troop.

I found it in a readymade Jumble puzzle by googling “Dunlap.” The first two links of a three-link total referred to schools in Dunlap, Illinois. The third went to Dunlap, Tennessee where you can see all the letters you need for “Shaquille” at first glance in “Sequatchie Valley.” It’s your clue that a major part of the heading can be used as Scrabble game tiles.
