Jean, I don't know about the pediphile comparison but the description of MF as a psychopath is totally accurate. I read a book a few years ago called Without Conscience by a psychiatric doctor and it fits him to a T.
Most aren't the serial killers--most are con men. (or women) and one the triats attributed to them is developing an "expertise" in an area and beating it for what it's worth--whether they are actually that good at it or not. They CLAIM to be. Ad nasuem.
Another trait is the pathological liar part. It describes in there as well how they will change their elaborate stories to suit the circumstances and do not in the least pay any attention to the fact that their "new" story does not mesh with the old story. They just "act" like they never told the first story at all.
Many are charismatic and good looking and can get away with most anything because people take them to be what they aren't. More rich, more educated more lots of things that they aren't. They are very good "fakers" and imitators---can pass themselves off as a rich, well-educated person for example when they are far from it.
When you take any (or all) of the Fuhrman stories such as telling the doctors that he killed people in Viet Nam and then in his book years later say that he never got off the ship in Viet Nam, you find this pattern of elaborate lies to suit the situation.
I tell you something else that I have learned by reading. Some people (but not all) have a a condition called Adult Child of Acoholics which has symptoms very much with what you see with Furhman. Lies to make himself bigger than life. The Viet Nam stories, etc.
I have known one such person well. It was YEARS later that I learned that all his Viet Nam stories about being wounded, etc. were lies. He never saw action much less got shot. His mother, too, (like Fuhrman's) was an alcoholic and he spent his childhood making up lies and excuses around the situation.
His hyperventalating story of finding the glove is an example. It was way over the top--emotionally and ever other way. BTW, I felt the same about the story that Schwab told of finding the dog to be the same thing. He was way too overly concerned about the dog finding and not that some people had gotten killed.
