One of the things you indicate is that you could not think of anything OJ would be doing in this time from the thumps to Park seeing him. He could have been removing his shoes and placing them in a bag by the Bentley. Park would not have been able to see him there.
I guess I am trying to explore whether Kato did in fact see OJ seconds before Park did. It was either in the Civil trial or his disposition that he appears to be very unsure of exactly when he saw him. I think Kato saw OJ and OJ made some motion that cautioned Kato (examples- the "Ssssh" sign of finger to lips, the wait sign, pointing to himself and the door). Kato would have understood he was not to acknowledge OJ, and he was suppose to wait until OJ went into the house. There are locations that Kato could have seen OJ but Park could not see him. That may be why he hesitated, why he did not open the gate, and part of why he was so fearful in the days afterward.
