Where is Phil Vannatter?

Just read in the LA Times that the LAPD has a new cold case unit. Says in headlines that an 81 case has been solved.

Oddly, the two detectives on the case are named Jackson and Vannatter---a Phil Vannatter.

Now, I know that Lange is supposed to have a son on the department. But what about Vannatter? Anybody recall?

Or has our "old friend" showed up in LA on the cold case unit with the LAPD again?
