When I read what Fuhrman said about the shoes in his book I immediately thought of what he said about the knit cap in his notes. He called the cap a "ski mask." He also said that it was black when it was actually dark blue. He called the Tai menu a pizza menu. He "theorized" that O.J. committed the murders and lost the Bundy glove in a way that couldn't possibly have happened. He got the timing of crucial events wrong again and again. He "neglected" to mention the weapon that landed the crushing blow to the back of Nicole's head and he "forgot" to mention the Caucasian hairs found on the Rockingham glove.
To me, the loafer "mistake" smacks of a contrived error to distance him from prior knowledge of what was really there. That is to say there is a pattern to his mistakes, which permits him to argue that he couldn't have had anything to do with manufacturing the real evidence for the "obvious" reason that he got it wrong.
A close relative to that kind of thinking is the "obvious" problem that HE DESCRIBED with the wet Rockingham glove. How many times have you head someone say, "He couldn't have had anything to do with planting the glove because he was too smart to have made such an "obvious" mistake. It's the flip side of guilty knowledge. That's the trouble with it. To get THOSE THINGS wrong in such a systematic way requires knowledge of the right answers. --Jasper
