Kari,

Whoever is playing Eyes is either having a great time watching us stumble around in the dark or he's quaking in his boots.

First he identifies himself as a "lurking" (Jean), "creepy crazy" (Miss Marple) who makes veiled death threats (Charlie) and too many mistakes to believe (Jolana). But he drops so many clues to Fuhrman that sooner or later any of us who have heard Fuhrman on the McKinney tapes, read his Bundy notes and scrutinized his book, Murder in Brentwood, would have pegged him as the writer.

Soon, it becomes SO obvious, with so little to go on, that Eyes is Fuhrman, that any reasonably intelligent person would have to suspect a trap. Sure, Fuhrman could have screwed up badly because he wrote the message when he was drunk or underestimated us in a moment of hubris. But how could he screw up THAT badly?

Now we're looking for something from Eyes to prove that he or she couldn't possibly be Mark Fuhrman and we are paranoid, easily misled fools for thinking that it could have been him.

If it is Fuhrman, that's his problem. If it's a Fuhrman super-fan, it could be our problem.

Now I want to throw another possibility at you. What if it's a Fuhrman-hater who's trying to make us look good by making him look bad?

It would be a big mistake to ignore any of these possibilities. The only thing we know for sure is that we don't know enough to be sure of anything. -Jasper
