Paddy, … Patrolmen Robert Riske, his partner Miguel Terrazas, Sgt. Dave Rossi and Sgt. However, none of these men were investigators. It was their primary responsibility to preserve the crime scene as best they could after Riske and Terrazas reported the crime and took reasonable measures to check the status of the victims they saw, possible perpetrators other victims and survivors. ……….. Riske was therefore able to see the cap, the glove, the envelope, the bloody shoeprints and the blood drops on the path leading to the alley. He noted that the front door was open. The garage door was also open so he was able to enter the house from the back. He noted the ice cream on the banister, the lit candles, the music that was playing, the rumpled condition of Nicole’s bed and the water in the bathtub. He called Rossi from the kitchen and noticed a blue jean jacket draped over a kitchen chair. ……….. The detective work started with Fuhrman after Riske walked him thought the places he went and pointed out the things he saw. Fuhrman was the first to give the “bleeding killer” interpretation to the blood drops on the walkway (item 13 in Fuhrman’s notes (High Points/ Fuhrman’s Notes) through a subtle and “flexible” speculation that the dog might have bitten the killer. Fuhrman did not record the blue jean jacket or the water in the bathtub that he and Riske talked about in Riske’s walk-through. The water and the jacket disappeared before Vannatter or Lange could see them. Phillips got the same walk-though from Riske that Fuhrman did. He didn’t note the water or the jacket, either. ………...All of the detectives had an equal shot at checking out the Bronco first. Phillips had the first shot at finding Kato, which led to the glove. He and Lange walked past Kato’s door http://www.smartfellowspress.com/Animations/Animations.htm (click Over the Wall). Any of the detectives could have found the blood on O.J.’s driveway. Fuhrman’s partner Brand Roberts found it first Roberts said he found blood leading into the gate from the Bronco. Vannatter found blood leading out of the gate. Any of the detectives other than Fuhrman or Roberts could have been first to find blood in the Bronco. None of them did. ……….. Vannatter and Lange had the first shot at tracking down the origin of the stick. They found nothing. Fuhrman said that he and Roberts tracked it to lot where a man reported seeing a light-colored SUV. Lange went back to Bundy before O.J.’s house was searched the first time. Fuhrman and Roberts were the only available detectives to conduct the search. They found the socks. The four hour delay in calling the coroner is unheard of in my city but in LA this did not appear to be unusual. ………. The question of ineptitude with respect to Vannatter and Lange arises out of a few glaring errors they made, which helped the defense and Fuhrman’s charges that they made many other errors. The consensus of law enforcement opinion is that the killer left enough evidence against O.J. to make Fuhrman’s dramatic discoveries superfluous. –Jasper
