If you read the transcript closely, the defense did not accept the phone bill's accuracy. They stipulated that the phone number was the Brown's only. But they did not, on the other hand, dispute the bill. You are right, they just left it more or left hanging. There is a missing piece here that would answer the why of the why. The real bill may well have shown that OJ could not have possibly done the murder. But we do not know why the defense did not want to present that proff. The missing piece is why the defense did not prove OJ could not have possibly been the murderer and just reasonable doubt so he would not be convicted. There are several places in the trial where this type of thing was done. I refer you back to the Liza Borden case in which the missing piece was the will.
