Prien, ….Thank you for explaining your position on the phone bills so well. I thought before that I understood exactly what you were talking about. I see now that I missed some important subtleties. However, I don’t think Marcia missed them. I think she counted on them to get the defense to muddle the timeline as much as possible. ……Your analysis is brilliant. I’m glad I didn’t see what you did before I worked out the timeline using other time markers or I never would gone thought all the trouble I did – which I couldn’t get anyone to understand anyway. That’s what I think Marcia wanted the defense to do. Once you get something like this in your head it’s nearly impossible to get it out. With the argument that Nicole was alive when O.J. had two witnesses and a phone record to prove he couldn’t have killed her, you have to take everything that comes with it. You invariably get murder/frame-up conspiracy scenarios involving so many agencies and high-ranking individuals calling the shots that it becomes impossible to fix responsibility on anyone – except O.J. Simpson. You end up with O.J. because no matter how you get the killing time from a theoretical record the evidence still points to him. ……Like you, I got a homicide detective to help me with features of the evidence and the investigative procedures that stuck me as being odd. I was shocked when he told me that there were ALWAYS items in a complex murder case that didn’t make sense but the things that did make sense to him in the Bundy case all that said O.J. was guilty. When I pointed out the time discrepancies at critical points in the case he actually laughed at me. I’m not talking about just any homicide cop; I’m talking about my big brother. …..You have to understand that I didn’t get my timeline from Marcia’s phone records. I got it from Heidstra, Pilnak, Mandel, Aaronson, Harmon, Telender, Schwab and, yes, the barking dog – the dog that barked loudly and continuously for over twenty minutes. ……Each of these people used a reliable “clock” (Donald Freed’s clock approach) that could be synchronized to the start time of the barking. I put them on a map and set them in motion. The simplified version of what I did is in the Dog Walker’s animations. You can use the animations themselves as clocks. If you get anything wrong, it shows up, as it did when I had the unidentified strolling couple in the wrong place the second time Schwab said he saw them. They had to “race” to get to where I had them on my map. But when Rose finally convinced me that they were somewhere else they moved at a reasonable pace. I wasn’t sure before (because I had them in the wrong place) but I knew then that Schwab told the truth about everything. Otherwise, it is highly unlikely that his story would have been in sync with Pilnak’s and Heidstra’s. Moreover, there was a message from animal control waiting for him when he got home. ……The bottom line for me was that there were many ways to bracket the killing time and the games that Marcia played with the phone bills didn’t enter into my calculations (pages 490-492 if Iago in Brentwood). They did, however match them. I didn’t even know about the 10:17-10:28 call until the book was in hardback. It, too, matched my calculations derived from other sources. This, I believe is the record that Marcia tried to slip past the defense and the one they were willing to let her believe did slip past them so they could use it as an ace in the hole if necessary on appeal. –Jasper
