Rose, ….Paula’s refusal to press charges against Wasz for stealing her 4-Runner seems reasonable to me under the circumstances. She had a busy modeling career with big buck assignments all over the world. There was nothing for her to gain by getting tangled up in the judicial system and having to bend her career around court dates in California that she had no control over. …….What could she testify to anyway? She drove to her hairdresser on January 24, 1994. When she came out ten minutes later her SUV was gone. She reported the theft and bought a new SUV, a Bronco. The man who stole her 4-Runner was already in custody for a string of armed robberies. The 4-Runner was totaled. Whether or not she pressed charges against Wasz he was going to prison for a long time. ……..My question is, why was she subpoenaed to appear in court after dropping the charges? What did the PROSECUTORS have to gain by doing that? It made no practical sense with respect to Barbieri as a victim of crime or with respect to Bill Wasz as the defendant. He was caught in the stolen vehicle. He admitted stealing it. There was no question that he wrecked it and he denied that he knew who it belonged to. ……..In other words, it appears that Bill’s prosecutors were treating Barbieri as a criminal suspect, which is why I believe her lawyer was successful in arguing to have the subpoena dropped. If that were not the case, I would like to know why she wasn’t thrown in jail for contempt of court. ……..The only thing that makes sense to me is that the police and prosecutors WERE looking at Paula as a criminal suspect because of her name and O.J.’s in Bill’s notebook and their surveillance of Bill dealing drugs before his arrest. Yes, the notebook. Contrary to police and prosecutor claims that the notebook was of no interest to them until someone brought it to their attention after the Bundy murders, the way Paula was treated when her SUV was stolen suggests otherwise. It suggests that police and prosecutors were monitoring all of the people in the notebook closely for illegal drug connections from the moment it came into their possession. ……..This is where I believe official LAPD interest in Rocky Bateman, Dale St. John and the limo company began, with the LAPD knowing all along that Rocky and Bill knew each other and that O.J., Nicole and Paula used St. John’s limo service. Wanna bet that Fuhrman, the former narcotics officer looking to make “the big arrest” didn’t have a jump on everybody? –Jasper
