Ok, people: I went back and reread my post in question, Rovaan's respone; my response to Rovaan, Jasper's response to all...and will concede that the "good grief" message was a bit over the top. However, I did say 'most' people who are in therapy in large metro areas are there because it is chic and trendy. That is not to say they don't have a few glitches in their self-absorbed lives, but that it has become more a conversation piece in their material existancae, just like a newly- aquired Louis 14th desk. If you think you have had to dig out of the mental muck, you should see my resume! However, this is my opinion on that underworld of psychoanalysis: much fraud, general arrogance, overpriced, oversold and lacking in ethics. A personal account... someone I know took a disturbed pre-teen to a psychologist for help; when the mother went in for an after-counseling session herself, she was subjected to an attempt to hypnotize her--without her permission and without any warning. Now that may not be SOP, but it did happen. And if you read case histories of misconduct by therapists engaging in such iffy practices as "reclaimed childhood memories," or "regression into past live," etc., you will realize that these therapies border on cult practices. That was the basis for my little outburst. I didn't break it down because I was not in the mood to launch into a fullblown essay. That, I agree was an oversight and rather pompous. But the whole medical/pharmceutical industry complex can be seen as little more than a money-manufacturing scheme. Today, for example, I learned that the head of the American Cancer Research Center was just appointed head, also, of FDA--the federal oversight agency which decides which drugs or other products will be allowed into our consumer chain. That is a definite conflict of interest. So underlying my anger is a whole subset of greviously under reported stories that are paramount to public welfare. Therein lies my frustration. Medicine as practiced (both physical and mental health delivery) in modern societies is simply one more commercial product proffered for profit. OK enough on that topic.......now, getting back to Mario. My thrust there was why he is the object of so much time and cajoling? And who are the Jebusville people--really? If you take that handle apart you can come up with some interesting asides: JEB (as in J.E.B. or John Ellis Bush--the governor of Florida; US of course is the United States initialed and ville stands for town of so and so.) hmmmmmm It seems Mario is stirring up the rabid right. Unlike Jasper, who is more diplomatic is most cases than I am, I don't care to exchange ideas with the Freeper crowd...been there and done that for over six years. They are intransigent, dishonest and totally devoid of political maturity. (Lilliputins) So why waste Jasper's time or our energy dialoguing with them? And if the post containing all those expletives is an indication of their mental capacity, I rest my case. And I submit this post for your examination, ladies and gentlemen of the jury. As I said before, I pick my fights carefully with an eye to what is germane to the facts and walk away from what is simply an obvious attempt to sidetrack the issue. marilyn
