Coming from the world of psycology, I am the first to admit that there are some pretty bad therapist out there. But there are also some who are great. Due to the very nature of the profession, it is difficult to know what to belive about what goes on in any session from the clients viewpoint. Usually my objective was to lead, push, whatever, to get the client to find their own origin of their problems and solutions. I might treat them in a certain way for months until they had some breakthru in memory, etc. During this process they might hate me and wonder what they where doing there. Then they had to go out and tell everyone they had told that I really was not a bitch and it really was working. I am a hynotist, although I never did it professionally because my credentials are a hair off to get a license in the state that I live in. And I did not care enought about doing it to go back to school to get that done. And I was not willing to fake it as a lot of people do. Knowing that much about hypnosis, I have doubt that in that kind of setting that a client was hynotised on purpose. People get hynotised all the time that has nothing to do with some one deliberately attempting to hypnotise them. People hypnotise themselves all the time, completely unaware of what they are doing. Unfortunately there are people out there doing regressive hypnosis without the background in psycology, medical and hypnotic training that makes them qualified to use this powerful technique. Under a qualified professional it can be a positive life changing experience. I know, been there, and accomplished a lot of getting rid of things in my life that where not productive to my mental well being. I do agree that some of this is cultish, but there are the real professionals that do have the background and knowledge to help the client find out the motivations that keep them messing up their lives. It all depends on the therapist if it is a cultish thing or a true psycological treatment. I caution anyone to make sure they know who they are letting mess with their minds. And if this is to be used in a court case, it should be vidiotaped to see if it is real or something that the hypnotist has lead to person to believe. I always audio taped any session with 2 tapes. One for me and one for the client. At this time, there is no reason for a professional not to vidio the session. I did this when vidio taping was not that feasible. No one should allow themselves to be hypnotised by anyone who does not ask about their medical history first.
