Your reference to this photo in MF's book made me look at it again although I have looked at it maybe thousand's of times.
I noticed something that I had never noticed before.
Just "how" is MF crouched down for the photo? He is pointing with his right arm but he doesn't seem to be on his right knee.
However, I can't tell if he is on his left knee either. It is almost (as tall as he is) that he has his butt on the ground but surely that is not true. He is not squatted down as I had always pictured in my mind---an assumption on my part--you know all about that--the mind fills in the empty spots.
It is almost as if he is sitting ON something--like a small stool or some such object.
I just tried this and came up with this. He is balancing on the left leg and foot. (you try it) In order to have the right leg that straight-forward, that is about all you can do to keep your balance unless you Are sitting on a small stool.
He is NOT however, in a regular squat. With a regular squat he would be leaning forward somewhat and he is not. He is balanced on something (his left leg and heel) from the rear. Just how much "planning" went into this shot or did he try several angles while the photog stood waiting for him to Pose? As we all know, this kind of shot is not usually done at all. charlie
