You were right, "there has to be more" and the "more" is that two police officers gave statements about Sydney but it appears that report Perlman was only given Officer Vasquez's.
The other officer, (his last names begins with H and I can't find it right now, wrote in his report that, "Mommy's best friend called and mommy started crying".
I think it is pretty easy to see why this officer's statement wasn't "leaked" out to the press.
In a sidebar on Feb 23, 1995--which only Walvern's transcripts have, is where I got this information. Clark later does ask Lange if both Officer V. and Officer H. made statements about what Sydney heard and he confirms it but then says that there was nothing further to report.
The court also lets the defense rule out that whatever voice Sydney heard, the voice was not at the condo that night that night---however, it is very easy to miss. Cochran keeps asking Lange about how important it would be to know if Nicole had a guest at 10:30 that night or any other "guest" besides Ron Goldman and Lange says there is no evidence to support this.
What is interesting is the court asks if the "Best Friend" is Cora. Clark says, "no one knows, no one knows!"
And Cochran said, "The child may know"...
At that point Clark says, "NO!" She then goes on to stuff that is even more confusing but her theme that Sydney is just a child and couldn't know who "mommy's best friend" was.
The defense also was allowed to ask Lange if he personally talked to the children about this and says no, but he assigned Ron Phillips to determine the accuracy of Sydney's statement.
Lange confirmed this was done.
Which explains Cochran's request for a stipulation from Sydney about why mommy was crying that night after and/or during her phone call with "best friend".
