I agree with you. I find it repugnant that law enforcement has every right to mislead the public by using the media. It works much better for law enforcement if little information is ever released and then people say to much relying on the media as their excuse. When misinformation starts being leaked, any statement shown to be incorrect can be considered to be just another false report, instead of the police discovering that someone knows more than what was published. For example, The Cary Staynor murders. They were able to verify his confession because they didn't leak information about the victims. Even though they still are unsure he did it alone, things he told them, like slitting her throat very much like Nicole Simpson was slashed, was not leaked to the public so when Cary Staynor told how he killed her this way, they knew he had to have been in on the murder if not telling the truth of committing the murder. The leak from the LAPD was as huge as Niagara Falls only most of it was sewage lies.
