Charlie,
It was astounding to me that LA county would pay an armed robber--a no-doubt-about-it violent criminal--$100,000 to avoid a trial in which HE SAID an officer planted a knife on him. Come on now, getting shot full of holes by the police is an occupational hazard for an armed robber. Lying about what he did to cause the police to shoot him is what anyone would expect. Black criminals prey mostly on black victims and black jurors have a vested interest in putting a son-of-a-bich like that away for a long time. That means they have a vested interest in determining whether or not he is the SOB the police and prosecutors say he is, and whether he got what he deserved regardless of the cop's motive for shooting him. So, why cave in to a guy like that?
You said it all, Charlie. It wasn't one thing or another thing. It wasn't something he said to a police psychiatrist in 1981, or someone he shot in 1987 and allegedly called a bad name, it was a sold record of evidence tampering for his entire career. --Jasper
