I agree about the career as a screenwriter and an author. That feel through too--at the time. I still thinks he believes on of these books he is writing will end up as a screenplay a la Dom Dunne.
When you list the reasons the LAPD had NOT to have MF continue on as a cop past the 20 year deadline, things get interesting. Mulitiple suits--and another pending. Continuing complaints against him. The Guould (sp) case in April and the absolutely stupid move of taking that door frame home and ruining it. Can you just hear the Expletive emitted when some top dog asked early on in the night who was at the scene and received the answer: Mark Fuhrman?
CAn you see even the LAPD continuing on and on with someone like this? There has to be a point even they say "no more".
And if it was true that other detectives didn't want to work with him. (Phillips even came to deny on the stand that MF was his partner).
And don't forget he was turned done for that unit he wanted in so badly. Perhaps his record was the reason he was turned down. That he was a cop with a career about to close at the end of 20 years not continue like Vannatter and Lange and others did after 20 years?
