Hi Charlie,
As you know, it was Joe Bosco who discovered the Wasz story many years ago and persued it and worked with Bill Wasz for a long time. His writing was scheduled to be published in Time Magazine as a major cover story. At the 11 o'clock hour, the story was cancelled. They even had the art work ready to go. Joe's friend the writer Jim Willwerth (the writer of Schiller's book) was very high on the piece but unfortunately, it never happened.
At one point before this, Don (Freed) and Joe went to Bill Hodgeman with the Wasz story, and Hodgeman acknowledged that "something was definitely wrong". (Shades of Dr. Lee) And he was going to do something! But then he decided that Joe should bring in someone that he could charge with the murders. In other words, bring the culprit to Hodgeman on a silver platter and he would prosecute. And then he continued to back away.
We then tried to get Wasz out of prison by writing letters to the Judge about Wasz's value as a witness in different investigations. We never got any response that I know of. It was right after this that I began to get phone calls from Wasz a couple of times a week. After this, he sort of pulled away from Joe and toward David Bresnahan. Joe was really in the hole by this time as he never was paid by Time because they didn't publish--and after Joe's years of work on this story. So he had to persue some other work to make up his losses. He remains dedicated to the truth in this matter though. He believes Luper is a good cop.
I would love to know what you came up with in your work that helped Joe and or Don.
Over 2 years ago, I E-mailed Christopher Springer since he appeared to be based in Las Vegas as I am. I never received any answer and his web-site seems to have been removed. Is he alive and well I hope? Don Freed is reading his book now and finding a lot of interesting things.
Sherman Skolnick--What a name out of my past! I remember him during the Watergate Hearings when he was doing reports for Pacifica Radio (KPFK) in Los Angeles. Does he have a web-site? DEA agents? This may be what the Brits are looking for.
The only person I personally know who saw the O'Reilly show is Patrick Forme, publisher of Prevailing Winds magazine. He told Don that Joe and Det. Luper came off quite well.
Thank you for writing. I look forward to hearing from you.
