When I was doing my research for Iago, one of the biggest problems I ran into was a lack of quality photos and scale drawings from which valid conclusions could be drawn. The photos and diagrams at Bundy were so contradictory and out of whack that I couldn't use any of them. The info you sent me was typical of what I found then. Depending on how you want to read it you can see just about anything you want.
In the end, I had to rely on the few images I could make out and properly orient in space and the testimony of Fung, Bodziak and Lee that were uncontested.
Both sides conceded that none of their diagrams were to scale and I saw one photo that appears, as John argues, to show a blood drop between the left and right shoeprint. However, the killer made double sets of shoeprint impressions, some of which overlapped and in one case went in opposite directions. The only clear shoeprints faded out before the five blood drops were deposited. There were no bloody shoeprints at all associated with the last two blood drops (which makes for an interesting question about the bloody shoeprint on the carpet of the Bronco by the breaks).
The prosecution and the defense agreed that the shoeprint in the Bronco was size 12, though the brand of shoe could not be determined. In his closing argument Johnnie Cochran argued that one of the police officers with size twelve shoes might have stepped in the blood on Bundy and gotten into the Bronco on Rockingham (dumb argument). He said, "How do we know Mark Fuhrman didn't wear size-twelve shoes." In other words, the defense didn't bother to find out whether he did or not.
F. Lee Bailey talked Bodziak through his diagram footprint by footprint but only to suggest in the end that the duplicate shoeprints could have meant that there were two killers wearing identical shoes (another dumb argument). When O.J. heard that he was pissed. What struck me was the fact that there was ONE, clear, left shoeprint (actually one on top of another) that showed one blood drop in the approximate location that I have it on the Iago book cover (the one the printer erased from the hardback). Marcia showed that print - the same one - every time she use a photo to argued that the killer was bleeding from the left side. From everything I could see, she only SAID that the blood drops were on the left of the shoeprints (all of them) but the defense, as I recall did not put up much of a counter to that assertion. They accepted it, so I did, too.
One thing I would question, however, is whether Fuhrman got his drawing from Bodziak got his from Fuhrman. We don't know who the artist was for any of the prosecution's drawings. There is no record of an FBI artist on Bundy or Rockingham and nothing to say that Fuhrman didn't volunteer to do them all. --Jasper
