Ex-girlfriend accuses O.J. Simpson of theft

No formal charges have been filed against O.J. Simpson September 23, 2000 Web posted at: 9:02 AM EDT (1302 GMT)

MIAMI (CNN) -- An ex-girlfriend of former football player O.J. Simpson has accused him of breaking into her home and stealing a letter and some pages from her address book.

According to a report filed with the Miami-Dade Police Department, Christie Prody, 25, said Simpson entered her home between midnight and 7 a.m. EDT Friday. She was not there at the time.

A dispatcher with the Miami-Dade police said no charges were immediately filed.

The police report said there was no forced entry into the home. Prody told police that she and Simpson broke up six weeks ago, and that he may have made an extra copy of her house key.

Prody said in the report that when she realized someone had been inside her home, she called Simpson, and he admitted it was him. Prody said he told her he only wanted to erase a message he had left on her answering machine. She said some pages were also missing from her address book, as well as a letter to a mutual friend that Simpson had told her he did not want her to mail.

The report noted that detectives who responded to Prody's call instructed her how to obtain a restraining order if she felt it was necessary.

Simpson was acquitted of criminal charges in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. But he was found liable for their deaths in a civil trial and ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.
