The glove had to be on the property inside the gate. Otherwise OJ has a defense that his Bronco was stolen and used in the crime. It also means the police had no real business to go over the wall.
By planting the glove inside the gate the idea was to say that no criminal would ever go inside the gate for fear of being caught hence it could only have been left there by someone who lived on the property.
This whole case is the logic of someone doing things on the fly. The amazing thing about the frame up of OJ Simpson is how much this all reads like a bad B movie with a bad director who can't follow the script.
