This week, the SF Sheriff's Dept posted a notice that it would sell the modest home--- at 101 Apollo St in the Bayview district---next month at a public auction According to the notice, the sale of the house, which is under OJ's name, will help pay off the judgment that the former football star owes to the guardianship of his two children, Sydney and Justin Simpson, whose mother, Nicole, was slain in a vicious knife attack. Although he was acquitted of criminal charges in the killing, OJ Simpsonhas continued to face numerous other legal problems---including a custody case over the children, which is where the latest judgment stems from. And from the looks of things, it's OJ's 70 yr old mom, Eunice Simpson, and his sister, Shirley Simpson Baker, who lives with and helps care for her---who will feel the real brunt of the debt. "You're kidding...That's so sad," said Sun Reporter columnist and family friend Rochelle Metcalfe when told of the auctionorder. "I just called her yesterday to wish her a happy birthday. (Her daughter) Shirley said she was in the bath," Metcalfe said. "OJ bought her that home back in the 70s when he was playing here with the 49ers." Metcalfe said, adding "You know Eunice can't get around that well." As a former city nurse who retird in 1983, Eunice Simpson collects a $1,500/month pension. How much the house will go for these days is anyone's guess, but real estate experts say similar homes in the same neighborhood are going for about $300,000. No one at the Apollo house wanted to talk about the auction order, and we were instead referred to Eunice Simpson's attorney, Leroy Taft of Los Angeles. Taft, however, didn't return our repeated phone calls yesterday seeking comment. Martin Greenbaum, the attorney in charge of collecting the debts on behalf of the guardianship, confirmed that a public sale would take place, but he said the sheriff's notice was "being revised and amended...because the publication contains certain inaccuracies." He declined to comment further. According to SF Sheriff Michael Hennessey, attorneys for the guardianship have asked that a new date be set for the sale, presumably later in November. Just 3 years ago, Eunice Simpson was involved in legal tug-of-war over a black lacquer Yamaha piano that had been seized from OJ's house in Brentwood. Simpson's creditors tried to seize the $20,000 grand piano for auction to help satisfy the $33.5 million wrongful-death judment awarded to the heirs of Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson, the two victims of the knife attack. But a judge eventuallyruled that the piano should be returned after Eunice Simpson testified from a wheelchair that it belonged to her, and not her son. Yesterday, Garis Caris, an attorney fro Fred Goldman, Ron's father, emphasized that the sale of the Apollo Street home had nothing to do with the wrongful-death case brought by his client and the family of Nicole Brown Simpson. "It's part of the guardianship dispute involving Mr. Simpson's two minor children," he said, declining to comment further.
