Jean, What you write here is very true.
And it is not just politics. The media these days outright lie, tell a story with an agenda slant or a bias to it, lie by omission of a story or by telling only half the story.
I see this all day every day in the tv news and the newspapers.
I mentioned those particular lies of Fuhrman's because they are so easily proven to be lies. Confronting him with testimony as to where, when and what those tapes were about would do it.
Confronting him with the "whitewashed" reports on him from the Police Task Force and the LaPD. Even though they were whitewashed, they had plenty that he did wrong. The Gould case is another area of wrongdoing that resulted in a busted case that was dismissed due to HIS errors and misconduct is another.
So very easily challenged. Yet nobody does.
Unlike you, I think if Clinton had been held responsible for lying under oath--there would be a bit of an improved attitude about it. Clinton's own Justice Dept. daily prosecutes people daily for lying under oath or to the Feds. They may be actually acquitted of the original charge but because they lied about something to the law enforcement investigators, they end up spending about 4 or 5 years in prison. It doesn't matter what the lie was about. I also differ in what kind of lies Clinton told. I believe he deliberately set out from the getgo to sabotage the Jones case by paying off the women, threatening them (many reported death threats), and lying and getting other people to lie.
He himself signed the rights bill that allowed the plaintiffs to go into his own history (based on old rape cases where the actions of the man had been out of bounds in court--also based on the sexual harassment cases where men had a pattern and practice of behavior).
With a Justice Dept that is imprisoning people right and left for the same thing and in some cases less than this, this man gets a pass. I guess it depends on who you are.
They find some little and perhaps inadvertant lie and when the charges have to be dropped due to lack of evidence or they are proven wrong in the first place, the cover up for their screwup, they are throwing the book at the person...and making a criminal out of an otherwise innocent person.
Yet if they are on the PC list of people we like due to their policies, every break in the world is given to them. Mark Fuhrman is a good example.
I do agree however, that it will take something as big as finding the real killer in the OJ case for people to wake up to see just how easily they got jerked around and how the press and others lied to them. Hopefully, they will be so outraged they will demand a better accounting from the justice dept., the cops and the prosecutors and DA's. charlie
