The November 14, 2000 edition of the National Enquirer leads with the major front page headline: "O.J. MURDER WEAPON FOUND...Investigator's Amazing Discovery".

The story begins on page 38 with the same headline repeated: O.J. MURDER WEAPON FOUND...Investigator says it's here"---and an arrow points to an area in an aeriel photograph of a landfill in Puente Hills, San Gabriel Valley. Oh, it's changed now--"investigator SAYS it's here"-- I see!?? The story goes on to say that an investigator named Kevin McKeown has "tracked the final destination of that trash" from LA International Airport to the city dump. "Both a porter at the airport and an achitect say Simpson at a trash bin after he arrived for a flight to Chicago". "LA Detective Phil Vannatter told the Enq the achitect saw Simpson withdraw his arm from a trash bin near the skycap's stand". OH??? Then why wasn't he called as a witness??

The article goes on to state that Mckeown says the "weapon from the trial of the century is just waiting to be recovered", but that the authorities didn't dig through the dump at the time of Simpson's criminal trial because "it would have been very costly"!? Oh really?? How much do 3 DNA labs cost?!

Bugliosi is quoted as saying that a recovery effort "is certainly an intriguing idea. Who knows... you might still find it." McKeown also stated that "the knife and bloody clothes are still PROBABLY in pretty good shape since they are NO DOUBT wrapped in a non decaying plastic trash bag." And what's the evidence for that Mr. McKeown?? Have you seen it??

The article goes on to talk about the tracking of garbage trucks for LAX to the dump, as well as how the dump is laid out in grids, and how the Landfill office records where and when each truck dumps its garbage. "By now trash dumped in Puente Hills in June of '94 would be under several hundred feet." And again: "it's all there just waiting to be found." SAYS WHO??

And finally the article closes with some remarks about nothing could be done even if they did find the knife and clothes because Simpson was found Not Guilty and the statute of limitations for perjury in California is 3 years.

So my question is why aren't Larry Haley, author of the article, and Mike Walker or whomever else is involved in this story in jail for Fraud??

#1, they haven't FOUND any knife! FOUND means that they have it--not that they should look!

#2, there is no evidence that Simpson dumped any bag in a trash bin at LAX!

#3, right after the crime, there was an extensive search of LAX which turned up nothing!

#4, the article is total rank speculation excepted as fact!

How is it that the National Inquiror can print a delibrately false and misleading headline that the weapon has been found when that statement is contradicted in their own article??

INQUIRERING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!!
