A common misconception about a racist act is that the color of the perpetrator has to be different from the color of the victim. What counts is the color of the victim and the ATTITUDE of the perpetrator.
As much as black people have suffered from white people who hate them, they suffer as much from other black people who hate the group they were born into. On the street level, you see it every day in black people who call each other the n-word. That’s how they see each other and that’s how they act. The popularity of a rap group that calls itself “Niggers With an Attitude” (NWA) ought to tell you something. Black cops who murder black suspects may have motives other than color for what they do, but I wouldn’t rule it out.
On a higher level, black racists who hate other black people see themselves as exceptions to the rule. Watching all of these high-level black faces singing the praises of George Bush and saying noting about the black people who where denied the right to vote is a case in point. Whenever I see one I want to gag. It is conceivable to me that there can be such a thing as a black “conservative” who doesn’t have a racist attitude toward black people in general, but I have never seen or heard of one.
If you listened closely to the speeches of Clarence Thomas before and after he became a Justice of the Supreme Court, you’d know better. The man worships white people and hates black people. Whenever a policy decision comes before him that has a negative affect on a disproportionately high number of black people, you know how he’s going to vote. He hasn’t missed yet.
Yes Jean, you may be right about the motive of the black cop who shot the black actor. It may have been about drugs. On the other hand, it may not have been ONLY about drugs. It may have had a hell of a lot to do with race. --Jasper
