Pat, The guy's name is Wellon Wayne Carr owner of the Hastings Garden store. Prominent business man.
The problem arose when this fire happened when their marriage was breaking up.
I went to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution archieves and could only access very short summaries (search Nancy Grace +prosecutor+ misconduct)
Also I looked under his name after I found it out.
Interestingly enough, the story is dated 3/11/97 which the anniversary of the case being overturned will be tomorrow.
I have only watched one CSI episode on tv and it so happens to be a story line very close to this one. On CSI, it was a black man and his wife and young son were killed in a fire. He had burns on his hand (from bedroom doorknob). His marriage was about to break up and he had a girlfriend he was leaving his wife for--which did not make him a sympathetic character but did not make him a murderer.
IN that story what appeared to be a deliberate setting of the fire was proven to be an accident ---electrical fire that got to the fuel from one of those hurricane lanterns.
