Charlie,

It looks to me like the bill is genuine. You'd have to see a good copy of the original to know for sure.

In my line of work I find that "high water" rises only so high. The W Angeles, for example is only 9 spaces. And you can't the W as two spaces because the spacing is different or upper and lower case letterls. You will also note that the LosAngeles and the Beverly Hls both have 10 spaces, but the last leter in Angeles extends into the space. If uniform spacing was that big a deal the letters in the cities woulld have been added or deleted to make the space as uniform as the last leter in the city and the first letter in the state should be.

As you said, this would have been an easy thing to fake. The easiest thing of all would be to get the spacing right so that nothing out of the ordinary jumps up and waves at you. I've seen bad spacing like this before on some of our machines. Getting it right in all cases is not as easy as it seems. I would expect to see some thing out of line form time to time.

By the way, anything that can be written or drawn can be faked (remember the fake wheels I made with clay and foil). But that doesn't mean it was faked. --Jasper
