Kari,
It appears that 10 spaces were allowed in that small 5 1/8 inches across in the specific area allowed for the telephone bill info.
You are correct. I keep coming across more. I learned of Pampano Beach last night abbrev. to Pampanobch.
It MUST be that there is a limit on the spaces used for each item--like the 10 spaces for a city because it would be a mess otherwise and never come off in straight perfectly formed columns.
For example--only 6 spaces allowed for date--Jun 13--the four letters and the space between or another would be Dec 25---never more but could be Dec 5...using 5 of the 6 allowed spaces.
Same for time. EIGHT spaces allowed only. For example---10:30 pm---8 spaces. It would never be More than that but could be 9:30 pm--7 spaces.
Two for State Abbreviations And 5 for Periods so Night can fit but they use EVE instead of Evening because that would be MOre than 5 spaces.
There are ONLY so many spaces available in that 5 and 1/8 inch space and they HAVE to adhere to it absolutely.
Plus this is set up I'm sure automatically by computer. Just like the stops that a typewrite can be set to type out columns. All that is set up ahead of time as far as spacing. That is why the out of place CA is so suspicious.
