Newport Beach is the area code of Newport Beach area. It shows in the book as not being one of the recently split the two recently split area codes are. Part of 909 became 951 as of February 12 2000 and Part of 760 became 442. 949 is between 619 and strangely an island of 714. Like I suspected, the area became an island of 714 because I was wrong. The desert did not go 714 as I thought, it went the island of 714 on the beach. I fact the beach area codes go like this. Santsa Barbara 805, an island that is ppart of 818,310,562,714,949,858,619, 939. etc. This is what appears to be the sucesssion of area codes in the front of CA PacBell phone book. They have pieces of the state pulled out so if any of these are inland a bit, it was not apparent because it was sperated from the state and pulled out on it own, thus appearing to be part of the beachfonrt area. This was why I took one look at it yesterday and figured I'd wait till this morning because I needed to have a fresh mind to really look at it and figure it out. I was afraid I was making the same mistake when they originally split 714, the original lower CA Area Code when there were just the upper southern 213, and 714. A big change in about fifteen years isn't it. I sure understand why OJOKAY left Southern CA.
