I would have put the glasses in my shirt pocket.
The book probably would have fit in his pants pocket. He should have had a menue memorized, it may have been a small piece of paper with the special of the day, that was called the waiters menue.
I think he could have gotten most stuff in pockets. No reason to have had anything in his hands.
