It's a sad state of affairs when poorly trained police officers become the accusers rather than the searchers for the truth. And that it takes the money and personal strenght and posture of the accused, people like the Ramseys and OJ Simpson, to fight that system. If you have none of that you have no choice but to plea bargain, (remember Rampart).
Jean, you wrote in a post earlier that justice should demand that if the prosecution used an expert witness the defence should be allowed one at the same cost. I would go a step further. The defence should be allowed the same budget as the prosecution. There are too many destitute innocent people in prison, people who never had a chance in the system. And with people like Fuhrman on the police force, and I believe there are lots of them, there will be no justice. (From the Fuhrman tapes, about planting evidence he said that "if he didn't do it, he had been thinking of doing it". Thus justifying the planting.) Miss Marple
