I cannot stress enough the very FACT that Darden writes a non-fiction book where the main character even has a derivative of the name Nicole (Nicolette aka Nikki) is amazing.
To have it set around a DA's office would not be strange but to have it in the LA DA's office and have the last 2 DA's being corrupt individuals. The cops involved and the DA's and the people they associate with being willing to sell info to the "bad" guys and being on the "payroll' of the bad guys at the same time as remaining a cop or DA is beyond amazing.
To have a DA to threaten his people with life imprisonment with trumped up charges in order to keep them in line and to have the "my way or the highway" (get transferred to the dreaded Compton office where their careers with slowly die) to ensure cooperation---is very telling.
To have the DA's charge 2 and suspect 3 people in the course of this book who are innocent of the crime due to a "rush to judgement" is nothing short of amazing in itself.
To have the plans for the trial/prosecution in the works at a time that the beginning of the REAL investigation is only beginning is another real clue.
And that in the case there is physical evidence--blood and fibers and fingerprints that put the suspect at the scene --and them NOT be the killer is also very interesting.
And I found it Amazing that the victim had DNA under her fingernails--two kinds. One was O and one was AB---weren't those OJ's and NIc's blood type?
And the alluding of gangs having access and influence and connections to the DA's office when in fact a scandal in the LA DA's office a couple of years prior to the Nic and Ron murders, had gang members actually in contact with and working in the DA's office.
Jean is correct about the other clues that are more specific as well.
The names, the jobs that they hold (like talent agent going on to be CEO of a multinational company when in fact the head of OJ's talent agency, Berg, became the CEO of EXCITE! after the trials)
I feel though that the Whole thing has to be considered. The culture and the background of the DA's office and the LAPD put together with the specific clues must be done.
Jean is correct. Nikki, the main character, not only lived next door to a cemetary (graveyard), the big scene at the end takes place in a graveyard. The "secret" is held in the cemetary.
