All you need to know about Matheson is that Clark hand picked him before the prelims for being "scrupulously honest". This was after the Grand Jury fiasco where she couldn't make Yamauchi say there was blood from three people on the Rockingham glove. HE was honest then, so "needed some prep time" (Without a Doubt) before the trial. Clark decides she needs Matheson from Special Investigations and to "pull whatever strings neccesary to get him assigned to us". (Without a doubt)
However, in Evidence Dismissed V/L write: "On 6-16-94, detectives were contacted by LAPD, Serology supervisor Greg Matheson regarding the right handed leather glove found at the residence of OJ Simpson. Further DNA typing of this item revealed that the glove contains blood stains that could include both victims as well as that of OJ Simpson. All of the blood could not have come from OJ Simpson."
So it seems like Matheson already was on the case. Miss Marple
