Miss Marple, Agree but the reason that The Star got the info and the DA's didn't (or the cops) was because they were willing to PAY for the info. That is disturbing too. That people who have knowledge won't tell the cops or won't tell them until they get a payoff for it.
And I truly believe that in some cases, the witnesses want it out in the tabs first to protect the info FROM the cops burying it or misusing it.
And in some cases, it is used to get out info that the cops or Feds refuse to take.
Remember that Mary Anne Gerchus, Heistra and others were shut out by the cops. And the DA's.
Raine Pryor told in tabs that Ron was a drug user-big time. That was shut down as well.
It was sort of a joke back during the trial that the best info came from the tabs.
I think most of us can tell when it is a planted or agenda type story in the tabs and when someone really has info. For one thing, sources are named.
