Kari,
What you're up against here is the power of words to conjure up images and the power of images to trigger ready-made answers to almost anything. I had the same problem when I was trying to write The Invisible Warriors. Every time I said something bad about the Viet Cong, my "left-wing" friends would assume that I had been brainwashed by "right-wing" propaganda and treat everything I said accordingly. My "right-wing" friends had no trouble understanding what I had to say about the communists but they could never get a handle on why African-Americans in general - including me - equated right wing politics in general with racism.
The evil is not in the name. It 's in the people who use the name to justify the evil they do. --Jasper
