It appears the location where Heidstra heard the voices is not across from Nicole's condo. Nicole's condo is on the second lot from the corner of Dorthy and Bundy an the west side. 874 Bundy is on the third lot on the east side from the corner of Dorthy and Bundy.
It is more likely, Heidstra heard Karpf slam his gate when the akita came running toward him.
Dick Wagner has posted an article on his site called "Red Tile Roofs" and it contains pictures that are helpful in understanding the situation.
