I seem to recall seeing that photo, too. It seems to me that Sydney WAS wearing a dress in that one but I don't know when it was taken, where it was taken or who took it?
Any idea where I might find that picture?
However that goes I would still like to know more about who Vannatter and Lange spoke with to help them frame their questions for O.J. We know that Lange talked to Lou, Denise and Juditha just before 6:30 A.M. and they interviewed O.J. at 1:30 P.M. That's seven hours, which leaves plenty of time for some in-depth questions to the Browns about O.J. and Nicole.
In Evidence Dismissed it goes like this [my comments will appear in brackets like these]: Chapter 3, page 28…
At 6:21 A.M., again using the telephone in Simpson's kitchen, Lange calls the Brown home. It rings several times before Lou Brown, Nicole's father, answers - almost simultaneously with daughter Denise, who is on the other extension.
"This is Detective Tom Lange, LAPD. Have I reached the home of Nicole Brown's parents?"
"Yes, you have," Lou Brown replies quizzically.
"I'm terribly sorry to inform you about this, Mr. Brown, but your daughter has been killed at her home."
To Lange's complete surprise, Denise immediately starts screaming, "I knew he'd do it! I knew that motherfucker [MF?] would kill her! I knew it! I knew it! O.J. did it! O.J. killed her! I knew that son of a bitch was going to do it!"
As Lange tries to continue talking to Lou Brown - who does not scream, cry, or accuse - he can hear a growing wave of wailing female voice in the background, screaming, "O.J. did it! O.J. did it! [wouldn't you like to know EXACTLY what Denise told her mother and sisters?]
…."After a few moments, Juditha Brown, Nicole's mother, takes the telephone and speaks to Lange. She tearfully tells the detective that the whole family had dinner together with several friends last night at a restaurant in Brentwood - after they had attended a dance recital to see their granddaughter, Sydney. [Do you think she simply volunteered all of that stuff or does it seem more likely to you that she was responding to Lange's questions?]. Without making any accusations, SHE TELLS LANGE THAT O.J. SIMPSON HAD ALSO ATTENDED THE RECITAL but not the dinner.
Lange does not push the issue of DENISE BROWN'S frenzied reaction against Simpson. But he knows he will talk to her and the rest of the family again IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.

The questions that Lange and Vannatter asked O.J. about the Bronco (answers they already had) tell you something about their "lie detection" strategy. The "innocent" questions about the clothes O.J. wore at the recital seem to me to follow the same pattern. I don't think it's my imagination that Lange latched onto Denise as a special source of inside information that he thought he could trust to catch O.J. in a lie. After re-reading Evidence dismissed and recalling portions of the transcripts that deal with Lange's trust in and his reliance on Denise, it seems likely to me that the main source of Lange and Vannatter's questions about the necklace, the bracelet, Nicole's birthday and O.J. recital clothes was Denise Brown. -- Jasper
