Rose, If Karpf drove Past the back of Nicole's condo, he could have seen.
Yes, the many people in and around that area at basically the same time.
A dog walker would make an excellent lookout. I have stated that before---about Schwab, himself.
His stopping the cop up the street---had the result of STOPPING the cop from continuing on down the street to Nicole's.
I have wondered--since he was a cop from another district and out of his area at the time, if he wasn't answering the call made by the old lady across the street. But he does NOT tell of the blood on the dog.
It also gave him (or some other guy with a dog) a Plausible excuse for being in the area.
