Yes, they are all over the place but in general (even for shoes which are Euro sized and made in Europe) a size 12 shoe is at least 12 1/2 in length.

What is important for our purposes is that a size 10 is NOT 10 inches long, nor is a size 11 measured as 11 inches, etc. If you base your conclusions on this, it would be very off base and inaccurate.

Also nothing was said by Bodziak or anybody else either is that shoes come in widths as well. And though there might not be a great deal of difference in a shoe due to width, I'd venture to say that the sole of a narrow shoe (an A) would be different than a D or an E for example.

I also know that the clerk told me (and I have also read) that a person could not wear the same size in BM that you would wear in the Nike or Rebocks. That there is about a size difference in them (internally?). So, to me that says that OJ wouldn't necessarily even wear a size 12 in both a BM and a track shoe.

I have also had the personal experience of having to get an extra 1/2 size if the shoe is not wide enough. That is one solution to the width problem if that is a problem with fit.

Also, in the case of women in particular (and maybe for men) there can be at least a 1/2 size difference in shoes depending on whether they are shoes to be worn with socks or with hose. Or if they are worn with track socks or with thin dress socks.

I recently had the experience of having to buy size 8 track shoes in order to be able to wear winter weight socks with them when I had never had a shoe larger than a 7 1/2 in my life. And it was a brand I had bought before.

Also, if a size 10 shoe has a 12 inch sole, it shows to me that comparing the sole of the BM shoe to the sole of OJ"s track shoe tells us nothing about whether they are the same size or could have been truly worn by OJ or not.

I have measured a bunch of shoes at shoe stores in my career of research in this area and got more than my share of "funny" looks from clerks as well.

I have learned that many of the size 11 track shoes in Nike, Rebok and others are over 12 inches long and many times will be 12 1/2 inches long. Another reason that a comparison of the soles of track shoes to a size 12 BM shoe does not necessarily prove anything.

My sized 7.5 (38.5 Euro size) track shoes are 10 1/2 inches long.

And I spent some time in shoe stores last Friday and learned that many women's shoes made in the "man" style are just as long and big as the men's shoes are...esp. the 9 1/2, 10, to 11's. It is not unusual at all for taller women to have these sized shoes. If my 7.5 women's shoes are 10 1/2 inches long, you can just imagine how long even the same shoe would be in a 9, 10 or 11.
