I just took a chunky stamp (Miss Marple will know what this is) and I put with a paint brush paint on the stamp and put ink in the crevices.
Then I stamped it briefly and without pressing down hard. What I got was one big blob for the first 3 stamps and only with the 4th did I get anything like what the stamp was supposed to be.
The only distinct edges were those on the outside of the pattern. Those in the middle were undectable as what it was supposed to be.
