I think I have the same copy of Murder in Brentwood that you do. I bought mine when it first hit the bookstores, so I don't think we'll find any differences there. Unfortunately, I don't have the paperback, which means I can't help with that either.
The passage I couldn't find had to do with Fuhrman talking to a female reporter at Rockingham. I can think of three explanations:
1) The hardback could have been released in two slightly different versions. This happens sometimes when the publishers find errors in the first run that they want to correct. In the process of correcting the errors they may have to pad a passage or pair something down to keep the page numbers from getting screwed up. 2) The passage is there but for some reason keep missing it. I went trough Jeffery Toobin's book several times trying to find Fuhrman's date of birth. I knew it was there because I took a mental note of it when I first read it. But for the life of me I couldn't find it until I stumbled over in when I was looking for something else. 3) The passage is not there but something else you read gave you the impression that it is there. In the second paragraph on page 43 Fuhrman describes a talk he had with Marcia Clark at Rockingham (a talk with a female at Rockingham) on the 13th. In the next paragraph he says that their conversation was interrupted when a news (news = reporters) helicopter flew overhead. According to Fuhrman, Marcia was asking him the kinds of questions that a reporter would ask. Depending on what else was going on when you were reading those paragraphs a simple association error could have easily slipped in.
In any event, the error (yours, mine or the publisher's) got you thinking along lines that otherwise may not have occurred to us. But, come to think of it, I should have zeroed in on this before.
When the group was talking about photos in Fuhrman's book, someone mentioned a photo of the knife box on the rim of O.J.'s bathtub. That wasn't in the hardback. It was only in the paperback. If that was changed, why not something else?
This is definitely worth exploring. I, too, would like to know where other changes were made in Murder in Brentwood but I don't know how to go about it. Any ideas? --Jasper
