This may be where Fuhrman's meeting with the ABC reporter comes in.
ABC's Dianne Sawyer was the first Network personality to interview Fuhrman. His book wasn't out, yet. When she interviewed him again his book was part of the interview and Brad Roberts was an integral part of the book. Is it too much to assume that Sawyer or someone with a direct pipeline to Sawyer was the ABC reporter that Fuhrman talked to?
Sawyer began her second interview with Fuhrman on the heels of several promos that promised startling revelations in the O.J. case that the lead detectives overlooked. The big selling point of the show was the idea that Fuhrman wasn't the only one to make these observations. He had evidence in the form of photos and expert witnesses to back up his theory about the murder weapon. He had his notes about a bloody fingerprint that he saw on Bundy and he had his partner Det. Brad Roberts as an "independent" witness.
So, where did so many people FIRST get the idea that Ron Phillips was Fuhrman's partner (Hint: Ron Phillips helped the idea along with his testimony in the criminal trial but he wasn't the first)?

A Myself, detective Phillips -- we were riding in one vehicle -- and Detective Vannatter and Lange. Q All right. So you were the four ranking detectives in charge of this investigation? A We were the only four detectives at this investigation. Q All right. And you left the scene of the homicide to go to Mr. Simpson's home at about 5:00 in the morning? A Yes, sir. Q Leaving no detectives at the scene of the homicide. A The scene was secured and there was a supervisor at the scene. And I stand corrected. The lieutenant of detectives of West L.A. was -- remained at the scene. Q Now, what did you contemplate that these four detectives would do in terms of notifying Mr. Simpson? Did you feel that you all needed to be there to lend him support? A Not at all, sir. Detective Lange and Vannatter didn't know the area. They asked me if I knew where Rockingham was and I said I did, and I led them to the Rockingham address. Q So your purpose in going to the premises was to escort Detective Vannatter and show him the way to the location at Rockingham? A Basically I was asked, "do you know where the Rockingham address is?" And I said, "yes." He said, "would you take us up there?" And Detective Vannatter said, "Ron, Mark, you know, lead us up there." Q All right. And what was the purpose of detective Phillips going? A He was my partner.
