I believe you are correct.
If you will notice the numbers of films (war movies and others) have cooperation from the Pentagon and from NASA and other agencies.
Some cooperation is out front --but a great deal is not.
Also, if you notice many "issues" get to the movies before it gets to be a political debate.
Both movies and tv are "setting the agenda" for both social and economic and political issues.
You can notice when certian "issues" are getting pushed through movies and television.
Recent times have shown us that with this administration, it is much more out in the Open than it ever has been before.
The drug czar has been giving "instructions" and being allowed to have the "ok" on movies and tv shows as to drug content is just one example.
In Dommanick's (sp) To Protect and To Serve, he details the history of the LAPD for example having had a VERY heavy hand in the movies and television from the beginning. He tells where from the beginning, somebody from the LAPD was on site and had final say so in Dragnet, Adam 12 and countless other movies. The movie and television people were only allowed to present the LAPD in the Most Perfect light. If they didn't, they found that they were turned down for filming on LA streets and didn't get permits for building and all kinds of other "checks" on what was put into the shows concerning the LAPD.
There is no reason to believe that anything BUT this happened also when it came to public policy or social issues or political slants.
A lot has been learned recently about how certain actors, directors, etc. have had to keep their ideas to themselves, their politics to themselves, or they are barred from getting any work. Or they don't get financial backing. Or any number of things that don't work out for them.
