I am watching this story closely. And it seems that the more time that passes we learn that the original story (the Chief Parks version) may not be at all what happened.
Johnnie Cochran has taken the case for the actor's sister. His PI's have learned that the cops DID go to the front door, and the party security took them to the kitchen while he was searching for the party hosts for them to speak with.
Then Hopper leaves his female partner in the kitchen (original story implied they were together at the time of the shooting and she didn't fire) while he creeps around the back of the house in the dark shining his flashlight into windows and doors. When he reaches the bedroom where Lee and others are, they are facing away from the door. He shines the light inside and they all turn as a group to see where the light is coming from. At that time, Lee, either jerks around with fake gun in his hand or perhaps even appears to be pointing it. At this time, (not knowing Who is outside or who is shining the light) Lee is shot repeated and killed instantly. NINE bullets were fired into the room with several people in it from outside the house. It was stated in an earlier article that Lee was struck 3 times but today's articles leaves that up in the air---the autopsy has been SEALED>
How does a cop fire 9 shots because he fears for his life when the "victim" never fires a shot?
The whole scenario as presented by the LAPD may not be true at all. We were given the impression the female partner was right there and witnessed the shooting. That apparently is not true. This guy was off on his own creeping around in the dark. For what reason on a noise call? Why did he separate? Would YOU shine a light into the house from the dark outside? And appear as a prowler?
I see this as no different as being in your own house cleaning your gun when a cop creeps up and shines light in your face and you make a move towards your gun not knowing who is outside your window---and you are blown away under the guise of you pointed your gun at a cop. One you weren't even aware was there.
There are many questions to be answered. AT the least, this cop was poorly trained or doing what he shouldn't have been doing. Who go off alone when the entire purpose was to speak to the hosts?
Also is this guy Quick Draw McGraw or did he already have his gun out? Creeping around in the dark?
This smacks of Fuhrman going off on his own on OJ's property. We are told this is against policy.
Was Lee set up by a practical joker who told a cop there was a guy in the back with a gun?
Why not duck? He was in the dark? Why not "hit the dirt" or duck below the window? Did he consider that other people were in the room?
It reminds of a video I saw once of a real incident. An upset woman looking to kill herself was walking around in the yard with a gun hanging from her arm at her side. She was facing some cops. A cop sneaked up on the side of her and yelled at her. When she turned (she did not point the gun--just turned towards the noise) he blew her away with several shots. She, in fact, was killed while turning towards the noise. They CLAIMED in that one as well---self-defense.
What it was is that they helped her die. Deliberately.
It also puts me in mind of the Trisha Miller case in Modesto where they surrounded the sleeping woman, startled her awake and 23 shots were fired into the car when she jerked awake from their already drawn guns.
I read an article recently that told of the training such that it is (in military fashion) that suggests that Every Person a cop comes in contact with a DANGER to that cop and is treated as such. Also that even a traffic stop or questioning implies that the civilian (as cops now refer to citizens) is the ENEMY and any odd movement is an attempt to kill the cop.
I realize cops have it hard and many situations are dangerous but there are way too many of these upset people getting killed, totally innocent people getting killed, and more.
I won't bet against this cop being cleared of everything up to and including not following proper procedure.
Would this have been any different if the guy had a cell phone that a cop could claim that he thought was a weapon?
