In California it is mandantory any missing person, in particular children (at risk) are immediately entered into the state computer system. Attitudes have nothing to do with the law. We used to have the same kind of problems with reference to time, but no more. If your State does not have such laws you need to talk with your Representatives (LOUD) and (LONG)to get the law changed. We cannot depend on our local officials to give a dam, only if it is the law and they can get SUED for failure to obey the law. Now we are talking real concern (which is a rotten shame).
I have had opportunity to observe the apathy where teenagers are concerned due to their propensity to run away (explore the world). Some of them are habitual runaways which tends to contribute to the apathy BUT each and every time the response is immediate action and follow up.
Not all agencies are lazy assed money moochers. There are actually police officer's out there that truly are concerned with your problems, large or small. They took the job because they liked it, not because it pays very well, and their concerns are genuine.
Any child (lie or not) needs immediate attention. I've witnessed in my City the response from the police, fire, city personnel and citizens to respond to missing children reports with intensive manhunts. It does not end until the child is found. God bless smaller towns. (50,000 or less).
I would say any city that ignores the apathy signs until it involves one of their own, needs a rude awakening and new laws to stick up their pipes for failure to be concerned human beings.
I'm glad the kids were alright, Jasper. I can only imagine your frightening concern at the time.
