I checked the Internet Movie Database and found that Why? (’73) was indeed O.J.’s first movie role. His first acting role was in a 1968 television episode of Dragnet. He made three more TV appearances as an actor before he did Why?
O.J. has a strong personality, a distinctive walk (even before his knees when out), a distinctive voice and distinctive voice inflections that come though in every role he has ever played. I think that this is the reason some people have labeled him a bad actor. But you will find that other actors with similar traits have taken similar raps for similar reasons.
I did not think O.J. was very good in the early roles I saw him in. John Wayne, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood and Kevin Cosner also sucked in their first acting attempts but you could see the promise. I saw the same thing with O.J. and in his last dramatic roles before the Bundy murders. I thought he was quite good.
I’m interested in this because I use O.J. and myself as controls to test the validity of links I found in the movies to the Bundy killer and to Fuhrman’s role in the investigation.
You can expect a few parallels to anybody to crop up from time to time, even some specific ones. I found some that linked to O.J. and the killer but far more that liked to Fuhrman AS THE KILLER. I found some that liked to me. I had to change some things in the Random Factor because one of my main characters looked too much like O.J. Then, when I got a better fix on Mark Fuhrman, who apparently saw the same media trend I saw in image assassination before the Bundy murders, I used the similarities to write the other two books in the trilogy.
Another thing about O.J. the actor and O.J. the man… The overwhelming number of links I found to O.J. in the movies and the Bundy murders were in the roles he played, not in his personal life – except where Fuhrman was involved. They weren’t enough to fill one page and they didn’t appear in clusters. The links to Fuhrman were in his psychiatric report, his letter to the city attorney, his Bundy crime scene notes the McKinny tapes, his first book and the testimony of Vannatter, Lange, Phillips, Bell, Singer, Hodge and a ton movies. The movie links did appear in clusters and the ones I found in only four moves was enough to fill a chapter in Iago in Brentwood. Before I was finished there were more than enough of them to fill three books. – Jasper
