Lollie,
Dan Abrams is the last guy on earth (right next to Mark Fuhrman, of course) to talk about “playing the race card.” He did constantly from the first mention of Mark Fuhrman’s racism being a factor in the O.J. Simpson case.
This is my “favorite” passage from his article:
“But unlike the O.J. Simpson case, both Jackson and Bryant have serious defenses and a real chance of being acquitted without obscuring the facts with scurrilous race bait. By making race an issue, their defenses will inevitably be linked with a much maligned O.J. Simpson defense.”
Has this guy been living in a cave for the last nine years or what? Every time a black man as gotten accused of any serious crime since O.J. WENT TO JAIL to await trial for murder race HAS been an issue.
The Army Drill Sergeant scandal began with a lineup of white women accusing their drill sergeants of coercing them into having sex. Television showed us one white DI – who was acquitted and then nothing but black guys, including an Army Captain who was dragged through the mud and eventually let go because there was no case against him. His name shouldn’t have even come up.
A Black DI named Simpson got a long prison term – for something that should have gotten him busted down to private and thrown out of the Army with a Dishonorable Discharge – if he did what he was accused of doing. There isn’t a soldier or former solder alive who doesn’t know that the “rape” charge was bullshit. The women involved should also have been kicked out of the service. What THEY did was also against Army regulations. It is illegal to obey UNLAWFUL orders.
None of the accused black men made race an issue. But how could it not have been?
The first Black Sergeant Major of the Army, the highest enlisted rank in the Army, was court-martialed, busted and discharged because a white sergeant major on his staff accused him of making sexual advances toward her. Huh?
Then there was the Chris Webber case and several other cases where the rape charge against a black man (and one Hispanic baseball player) proved to be a flat out lie. I can’t imagine any of those cases going anywhere if the accused rapists had been white. Can you? What on earth are Jackson and Bryant doing on trial in the first place?
And need I say anything about the evidence against O.J.? I don’t think so. –Jasper
