I agree completely with your analysis. I'm just saying that the print isn't there for one of two reasons.
1. Either the print was never there, or
2. It was wiped away by Fuhrman because the print was his.
In either event, Fuhrman can't be directing anyones attention to the print until after he can claim that Vanatter messed up by not reading Fuhrman's notes right away, and therefore let the crime scene be washed down thereby losing the print. It's a very clever CYA scenario.
