The women who were killed near Yosemite didn't live in Modesto. They were from the Northern Bay area. Modesto was just the headquarters for the families. Chandra and Laci were both from Modesto. Cary Staynor who is convicted of killing the Yosemite tourists was from Merced. His brother was kidnapped when he, Steven, was seven and then was found when he saved Timmy White from Ukiah CA when Steven was 14. He came home to Merced and then died at 24 in an alleged Motorcycle accident.
