Rose,
It’s a good thing these messages are not in indelible ink. Your last line, “This is the last time I will discuss the animations. They are Jasper’s creation and show what he wants them to show,” looked like something I would have expected from John Junot. Coming from you, it made me so angry I’m ashamed of what I wrote. It not easy hearing someone you admire use years of your hard honest work to find the truth call you a liar and a fraud (in a polite, indirect way) and vow to discuss it no further.
What’s going on here?
In your denunciation of Marcia’s Story you did not distinguish between Marcia’s Story 1 and Marcia’s Story 2, different interpretations of her claim that Allan Park saw O.J. coming from behind the garage. Each animation shows the extreme case. I have enough respect for the intelligence of anyone looking at those two extremes to believe they can fit O.J. and Kato anywhere in between were I put them and see that they will get the same results. Either they cross each other SOMEWHERE or Kato sees O.J. Do I have to make ten different animations of Marcia’s story to make that point?
Rose, didn’t you notice what I DIDN’T say about your insistence that Marcia’s Story include O.J. putting things into the bag behind the Bentley? I didn’t say that O.J. could have handed those items to Kato and Kato put them in the bag. I didn’t say that O.J. had the bag with him when he came from Bundy and dropped the glove on the ground by mistake thinking that he was putting it in the bag. Anything that could have happened according to Marcia’s suggestion that the bag contained items from the murder scene would given someone reason to criticize what I did – because it wasn’t in the transcripts. I looked for it before I made the animations and I couldn’t find it. I’m guessing that you looked for it, too, and you couldn’t find it.
This brings us to Kato’s Walk -- NOT Kato’s story. Kato’s Walk is an attempt to reconciled the converging and conflicting statements of all three people involved…
What O.J. “really” meant when he told Kato, “You saw me go into the house” has nothing to do with Kato’s Walk. It’s about Kao and O.J. coming back from McDonald’s, period. If Kato were trying to cover for O.J. he would have said, “Yes, I did.” He therefore had no reason to lie about not seeing O.J. on Kato’s way to the south path. He had a good reason to say he saw him if he wanted to implicate him in the murders.
Park had no reason to lie and I never claimed he did. The animation only shows how it was possible for Park to have seen Kato first without Kato seeing O.J. and without O.J. seeing Kato. O.J. said that he saw Park. He did not see Kato.
Now imagine O.J. approaching the bench when Park sees Kato. If Kato is still standing where Park first saw him O.J. would have seen Kato, too. They would have seen each other.
The only thing Park is certain of in this event is the sequence. He muddled many important details that were not important at the time. He recalled seeing Arnelle’s car when it wasn’t there and he didn’t recall seeing O.J.’s Bronco when he left.
In the grand jury he said that the interval between seeing Kato and O.J. was “within seconds.” In the preliminary hearing it was “almost simultaneously.” He also said that he talked to his boss for a few seconds and THEN saw the figure cross the driveway and go into the house. This was Park’s interpretation of “within seconds.”
In the criminal trial Park dropped the “crossing the driveway” but Marcia set him up for the time interval between seeing Kato and O.J. by saying, “HOW LONG -- NOW, AT THE SAME TIME THAT YOU SAW KATO KAELIN IN THE SIDE YARD, DID YOU SEE ANYTHING ELSE?” When Park said he saw the man go into he house, Marcia asked a dozen other questions before she go back around to the time interval between sighting the two men. That’s where your quotes come in.
Rose, I went over this stuff before I made the animations until I thought my eyes were going to bleed. Park took his lead from Marcia. He tried to tell what he saw and please her at the same time. He had national billing as a key prosecution witness but the only way he could make his story line up with the one she wanted to tell was to recall little things a little closer to her story each time. In the criminal trial his sights were, in Marcia’s words, “at the same time,” and in his own words several questions, answers, objections rulings and a reiteration of the question later, “simultaneously – within seconds.” It had to be more than a few seconds because in this telling of the story, told his boss someone was home when he saw Kato. His boss said some things to him, and THEN he saw O.J.
Park wasn’t sure of the timing. He said what Marcia wanted him to say but when you go though all of the testimony you don’t get Kato standing on the path near the driveway looking at the driveway. You get Kato pausing, briefly, waving at Park and continuing toward the south path.
This is what you didn’t include in your quotes from the transcripts that convinced me Park was not confident in his recall of those details he described:
Q: DID HE ACKNOWLEDGE YOU IN ANY WAY AFTER THAT PERSON WENT INTO THE HOUSE?
A: FROM WHAT I REMEMBER, HE KIND OF GAVE ME A HAND GESTURE TO LET ME KNOW HE WAS THERE.
Q: AND THAT WAS AFTER THE SIX-FOOT PERSON WENT INTO THE HOUSE?
A: I'M PRETTY SURE, YES.
